As the University of Alabama continues to project pledge classes of over 100 women, the Alpha Zeta House Corporation for Phi Mu determined that the opportunity to build a new home on the existing and corner lots was the best option to provide collegiate members with the experience of living with their Phi Mu sisters. After years of consideration and research, and the option of an additional adjacent lot, it was determined that the best way to address the needs of a growing chapter and to ensure a safe and updated house was to take advantage of the opportunity to build a new home for Alpha Zeta. The House Corporation retained Holmes Architects of Mobile to fulfill the needs of Phi Mu. The House Corporation and the architects developed a plan that builds a home around the needs and opportunities of the chapter. The house rendering was approved by the University Board of Trustees on November 8, 2013. The style and layout of the new home will place an emphasis on enhancing the strong sisterhood our collegians share, attracting the best and brightest new members, serving as a destination for alumnae, providing an environment that benefits members’ academic pursuits, and strengthening ties to the University and the community.
